I’m a writer and filmmaker living in the Pacific Northwest.

My first novel, Vintage, was released in 2015 by Touchstone Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. I also write about food, wine, science and education in publications ranging from Narrative.ly to MSN, Zester Daily and Terra Magazine.

I directed the documentary American Wine Story. My next film projects include Saving Atlantis with Justin Smith, about the decline of coral reefs around the world and Three Days of Glory, with Scott Wright, a deep dive into Burgundy and the world’s greatest wine celebration. I’m also at work on my second novel, Flyover Country and a collection of novellas called The Coral Sea.

I pay my bills by working for Oregon State Productions, creating documentary, video and broadcast content that advances the university’s land-grant mission and makes a positive difference in the world.

I live in the spectacularly beautiful state of Oregon on the rainy side of the mountains with my wife and daughter. When I’m not doing something outside, I’m usually reading and occasionally writing books.
